Beyond the awesomeness of this #Demolition Derby Vehicle casting, I’m willing to bet that if you weren’t at Irwindale Speedway on May 7, 2016, you don’t know the story behind the graphics on this one. The #92 “River Rat”-mobile is the creation of Hot Wheels (Tracks & Playsets) Designer, Robert Heath. Chances are, you’ve seen images of the newest #Cruise Bruiser from the #2017 Hot Wheels #HW Daredevils series — and hopefully, you’ve had success finding it as part of the “K” cast assortment along with its Super #Treasure Hunt variant. Since this is an #Unlicensed Hot Wheels “fantasy car” — or “Hot Wheels original” — there is no affiliation with any automaker as this one in from the mind of Hot Wheels Designer, Dmitriy “Dima” Shakhmatov. His working title, “Momma’s Little Stinker” never panned out with Mattel legal, so the “Cruise Bruiser” was born. Bruiser Cruiser is a fantasy casting resembling that of a highly-customized three-wheeled chopper with a race car style wing on the rear. The casting comes with a Bumper Claw similar to all other Chopcycles castings which allow them to be used on Sizzlers Fat Track. Bruiser is an original design depicting a performance-oriented contemporary muscle car with retro-inspired styling.

It may be a pretty young casting collection, but its one that has gotten plenty of coverage here on OTD. Would you like to see more #Demolition Derby Vehicles of this nature? My affinity for the #Cruise Bruiser started back in 2015 when the casting was first released as part of the 2016 HW Daredevils series. Its a jacked-up, #Demolition Derby Vehicle reminiscent of late ’60s / early ’70s land yachts — especially the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser.

Since the #Cruise Bruiser was selected to be one of 15 Super #Treasure Hunts in the #2017 Hot Wheels mainline, its always fun to compare the $TH release with the common release. Sure, there is the #Real Riders versus standard basic wheels comparison, and also the #Spectraflame Paint versus enamel paint comparison, but those take a back seat to the added/alternate graphics on this release. The Cruise Bruiser is a Hot Wheels original design based on a demolition derby station wagon. The Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser from the 2016 HW Daredevils Series is an unlicensed Hot Wheels demolition derby station wagon. Now some collectors may prefer the omission of the graphics on top of the standard release, and that is fine however, you have to appreciate the “more authentic approach” with the top graphics on the $TH — it even has painted roof rails! Also, those that keep their cars carded are deprived of the “TH” logo on the $TH as its only on the side that faces the blister card, replacing the #92. The Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser Super Treasure Hunt from 2017 is a highly detailed and collectible version of the Cruise Bruiser car model.
So when I said the Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser takes me back to my childhood, you can see why. This car would have been perfect for the demolition derby had it been made in the 1980s (since it most likely would have been all metal). To my recollection, Hot Wheels has never done a demolition derby specific casting. We’ve seen releases to the liking of the Demolition Derby 5-Pack (in 2010), but none of the castings were any you would see in a real demolition derby. So it would have been really cool to have a real demolition derby car as a kid instead of crashing a bunch of high-end exotic cars into each other. When images of the design first surfaced, many collectors wondered what this “crocodile offspring of Mickey Mouse wearing sunglasses and sporting a killer mustache” represented and now you can be safely assured, its purely from the mind of Robert Heath.
